This company can trace its roots to the 19th century, when the Dallas Electric Lighting Company provided electricity to the Dallas area. After a number of indirect predecessors and acquisitions through the decades, the multinational energy company was renamed TXU Energy. Today, it is also a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings.
In 2002, the electricity market in the majority of the state became deregulated, and residents gained the option of shopping around for an alternative retail electricity provider. With TXU Energy, Texas consumers can shop competitive rates, including plans with renewable resources. The company also offers easy-to-understand plans, as well as tools to help residents conserve energy. One such plan, Free Mornings and Nights, gives consumers free electricity from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
